Why Comfort Food Comforts

"Hey! don't worry I will buy you an ice cream so stop crying because everything will be alright."

Do this sounds familiar right? Maybe you heard this when you were a young child. This words are told to you by your elders to express their love for you when you are hurt. The way they knew to do this is through food but not just any food and these are called "comfort foods." Comfort foods are usually rich in fats and carbohydrates such as ice creams, cakes and chocolates. They have the characteristics that can make us temporarily feel better. We are here to tell you why comfort food makes us feel better.

Comfort foods is believed that can cure the mood that ails us. It makes us feel good because these foods are rich in fat, it activates our brain. For example, chocolate has a strong effect on mood and it increases the feelings and reducing tension.

Researches have turned up that the comfort foods we crave are associated from our pasts. We all have that memories that makes us happy and whenever we are eating foods, it reminds us those memories and we consume that past happiness. And it makes us temporarily feel better. It is also believed that comfort foods symbolizes the people in our lives. For example, you are eating a pizza and you remember a person that loves it and it makes you smile while reminiscing those happy memories with him/her.

Now, we already know why comfort foods makes us feel good. But still, we need to be careful for what we are eating because too much of fats and carbohydrates can be a cause of weight gain or other illness that can lead to another problem in our life.
